CHRISTIAN CAPURRO (b. 1968, Dampier, Western Australia) is a Melbourne based artist, photographer, and filmmaker. He holds a Master of Arts (Media Arts) from RMIT University, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Printmaking) from the VCA at Melbourne University.

 

Christian’s work explores bodies, reproduction, (mis)translation, and erasure through a photo-graphist approach using digital -and analogue- tools, media, and processes. His multi-channel video installations SLAVE (2014) and a man held (2015) are representative of his recent experimental mobile-phone film and installation making.

 

Capurro has exhibited extensively, both in Australia and overseas. Selected notable exhibition spaces include MASS MoCA, the Museum of Contemporary Art, STUK Kunstencentrum, Artspace, West Space, the Institute of Modern Art, and the Venice Biennale of International Art (with Another Misspent Portrait of Etienne de Silhouette project). His work is held in a number of major public and private collections in Australia.
